Whitewater Rafting in Georgia
Chattooga Wild and Scenic River is located on US Hwy. 76 E. near Clayton, Georgia.
Chattooga River is a Wild and Scenic River designated by Congress. It means that it will never be developed or dammed. The river starts in the Appalachian Mountains in North Carolina and goes through South Carolina and then Georgia.
Chattooga is a Cherokee name that means "We have crossed here and come out the other side". The movie Deliverance was made here.
The Chattooga is a falls river which is depended on rain. Today, the water levels are dropping due to climate change and draughts. Since the water levels are down, the river has slowed down meaning the rapids are not as strong as they use to be. However, this doesn't mean the rapids are not strong. They just aren't like they use to be. There are still risks involved.
