Georgia, in the southeast of the USA is an historic state with a colorful history and strong personal identity. Known as the Peach State or the Empire State of the South, it played a very active role in the American Civil War and was one of the seven original Confederate states. It seceded from the Union in January 1861 and was the last state to be restored over nine years later.

Spanning almost 60,000 square miles with over twelve hundred miles of interstate highways plus many hundreds of miles of county roads,driving in Georgia has endless permutations. The terrain, like the history, is rich and varied from the highest point of nearly 5,000 feet at Brasstown Bald to sea level. Whatever your route you`ll find breath-taking mountain passes, lush farmland, lakes, rivers and waterfalls. Georgians, are known for their warmth and hospitality and whether you chose a high class hotel or a simple bed and breakfast, you`ll be treated like a king. And as for the food, be sure to build some exercise into your road-tour or you`re sure to add pounds to your figure. To the north Georgia is bounded by Tennessee and North Carolina. And you`ll be entranced by the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains, which form part of the Appalachian Mountain Range. Varying from Chieftain museum, the home of Major Ridge the Cherokee leader to the Chattanooga National Military Park, commemorating one of the bloodiest Civil War battles. If your drive takes you more to the Northeast  then you will have a chance to sample some of the produce from the wineries that are dotted among the gentle peaks as you drive past beautiful lakes and by cascading waterfalls.To the west the state is bordered by Alabama and the area is known as Presidential Pathways because of the links with two past presidents Franklin D Roosevelt and Jimmy Carter. With more civil war historic sites to visit, this area is also littered with scenic landmarks and lovely lakes. It was also home to the inventor of Coca Cola.

The southern border of the state is Florida and the east abuts the Atlantic Ocean and South Carolina. Many find the Georgia Coast their favorite region and the drive from Richmond Hill to Kingsland is one of outstanding beauty.
