Northwest Georgia Blue Ridge Mountains

The Blue Ridge Mountains are 90 miles north of Atlanta.

In the Blue Ridge Mountains of Georgia, you can go fishing, horseback riding, golfing, whitewater rafting, tubing, boating, mountain biking. See waterfalls. Ride a train. Shop for antiques. Visit art galleries and studios. Spend the day at a spa. Listen to bluegrass music. Attend festivals. Enjoy the beauty of the mountains in spring and fall. In the spring, the mountains are blanketed with color as the dogwood, azalea, mountain laurel and rhododendron bloom. In the fall, the changing colors of leaves paint the mountains in shades of red, yellow and orange.

The town of Blue Ridge Georgia has a health resort where you will find pure mineral water springs. There are art galleries, specialty and antique shops here.

Go Whitewater Rafting from March to October. Take guided rafting trips down the Ocoee River. Tackle class iii and iv rapids. The Ocoee Whitewater center is located off hwy. 64 north of McCaysille. Go tubing down the Toccoa River. Fish. Hike the Toccoa River Canoe Trail which goes 17 miles along the river to Lake Blue Ridge. Rent a canoe or take a guided tour from a local outfitters. Fishing license, bait and tackle are available too.

Take a scenic drive along the Georgia Mountain Parkway which runs 65 miles through Ellijay, Jasper and Blue Ridge.

Hike the Appalachian Trail that starts at Springer Mountain GA and goes all the way to Maine or hike the Benton MacKaye Trail. There are over 300 miles of hiking trails in the region.

In the Chattahoochee National Forest, go trout fishing, hiking, camping and boating. There is a beach here.
